Nantucket Community Music Center Cajon Drum Workshop

Cajon Drum Workshop

$50.00

Join us Tuesday July 12 from 4-5pm at 56 Centre St for a special and unique percussion workshop!

Led by cajon drum player Andy Skellenger, percussionist in Miguel Espinoza Flamenco Fusion, this workshop will explore the unique sound of the cajon drums and how to get the basics down to start honing your craft. Cajons are a box-shaped hand percussion instrument that have origins in 18th century Peru, and they’re played by sitting atop the box and using your hands, palms, and fingertips to create sound. The sounds you can achieve with this instrument are remarkable. This workshop is open to students of all ages and abilities.

This workshop is free for members, $50 for nonmembers. To become a member, click here. If you are a member and would like to register for the workshop, please contact the office for assistance. (508) 228-3352 / manager@nantucketmusiccenter.org

Andy Skellenger is one of the foremost players and builders of cajon drums in the United States. He is a regular member of numerous ensembles in the Denver-Boulder area, including Miguel Espinoza Flamenco Fusion. The band will perform a concert Wednesday, July 13 at 7pm at the Dreamland Studio Theatre.
